Dog owners everywhere dream of it: the chew toy to end all chew toys. That’s why I decided to review 10 top rated toys for dogs who like to chew. Together with a few dogs, we set out to find the best dog chew toys on the market.
How does the ideal chew toy look like? Well, it should be a chew toy that is durable for those aggressive chewers, tasty to encourage dogs to take care of their teeth, and ideally fun for everybody.
It can be hard to pick one in such a large market of dog chew toys, all claiming to be the best for your dog. I am lucky enough to have a couple of dogs at home with impeccable taste, as well as the dogs I take care of while their owners are out of town.
That means I got to test a variety of toys on a variety of dogs, so you can make sure you’re buying the right toy for your pup!

10. Hyper Pet Hyper Chewz Ball
- Ball design attracts dogs
- Essentially fell apart after an hour of play
Let me preface my review of this toy by saying my dogs loved it because it is a ball. This toy couldn’t have been a flop just because it was a ball! That being said, I was pretty disappointed by this toy’s durability.
Neither of my pups are the type to completely destroy a ball and they both love chewing on their Chuckit Whistler Balls. Nonetheless, after under an hour of play, this ball was full of holes, and almost had a chunk ripped off the side!
As much as I wanted this toy to be a win because both my pups love a good game of fetch, it just isn’t the best chew toy for aggressive chewers.
9. Pet Qwerks Pig Ear
- Potentially durable
- Couldn’t even get my dogs to look at it, let alone chew it
I was so excited to get this toy! My little dog loves pork and she tends to adore this type of chew. Her passion in life is pig’s ears, and I was excited to have one that wouldn’t be devoured in seconds.
Unfortunately, this toy just was not a hit. It was difficult to even get her interested in it! I tried it on a few dogs afterward, and none of them were interested either.
Despite the fact that this toy is an excellent concept, it just doesn’t quite hit the mark. I really wish that it had, but Wile E’s face in the photo above doesn’t lie!
This chew toy is, however, very durable. The nylon it is made of is hard, so if you can get your dog interested, it might work for your purposes!
8. Nylabone Flavor Frenzy
- Nylabone durability
- Doesn’t seem to taste like anything
- Just not that interesting
This one took some coaxing to get any of the dogs interested in chewing it! Eventually, Cici did carry it off and have a good time with it, but none of the dogs have touched it since!
As much as I love the design, I just don’t think the Philly cheesesteak flavor really came through. Even when Cici did decide to give this toy some attention, she was quick to abandon it for something she thought might be a little more fun!
This toy would be good for the kind of dog that would chew just about anything. The flavor might be more motivating for a power chewer who would really get into it. For more typical dogs though, I think you could give this one a miss!
7. Oneisall Toy for Power Chewers
- Durability
- Not very interesting for my dogs
This one was definitely not a favorite for the dogs I was testing it on. It was pretty difficult to convince them that it even was a toy, let alone something worth holding their attention!
In fact, I think the look on Cici’s face in the photo above says it all: “you want me to play with that?”
It is meant to be bacon flavor, but the dogs didn’t seem to think it had much flavor at all.
The saving grace for this toy is that it is very durable. When I finally convinced a dog that it was worthy of a chew, it was a German Shepherd Dog who is an aggressive chewer.
She worked on it for quite a long time, and this toy looked the same as it did when I gave it to her. I think this is the best chew toy for aggressive chewers.
6. Outward Hound Bionic Bone
- Food stuffing feature
- Difficult to wash
- Not durable
I love toys that allow you to stuff them with food, and the Bionic Bone definitely fulfills that!
Unfortunately, there are a few other problems with this toy that just can’t be made up for by the fact that it holds food. The biggest issue with this toy is durability- this is not a good choice for power chewers. Even my smallest dog has been known to take a chunk off this toy.
The other issue with this toy is that it is really difficult to clean. For a food stuffing toy, that’s a big problem!
Despite claims that they come clean in the dishwasher, I’ve had a few occasions where I really had to work at getting leftover food out of this toy. If you don’t have a dishwasher, it would be hard to get it clean at all!
5. Nylabone Double Faux Bone
- Durability
- Not exciting for every pup
The Nylabone legacy lives on! It withstood this pup’s teeth like it was nothing. Admittedly, two of the dogs I showed this one to completely rejected it. They definitely sneered.
Chloe on the other hand, an older doodle, absolutely loved it and chewed on it for a while! Her folks even said that she won’t even chew on bones most of the time!
Due to the fact that it was turned down by a few pups before being accepted by Chloe, I have to give this toy 3 stars. If your dog loves to chew though, this is one of the best dog chew toys for you!
4. Benebone Maplestick
- Good for gums
- Long term appeal
- Might not stand the test of time
- Not a great flavor
My pups aren’t always crazy about this style of chew. They’ll have a good gnaw when I first give it to them, but after a few minutes, it’s on to the next.
I thought this might be more of the same, but for whatever reason, my pups adore this toy. Day after day, they keep coming back to it.
I have a strong suspicion that they liked this one in particular because of its shape. Having such hard angles, I think it really got to that itch between their gums!
I did notice that after a couple of days of chewing, my bully mix Wile E had made some pretty significant dents in it.
As much as my dogs loved this toy, I might not recommend it if your dog is a true power chewer!
3. Nylabone Durachew – Flavour Medley
- Versatility
- Durability
- Can be tough to get your pup interested in it
This toy was surprisingly popular with my tiny mutt. It was about as big as her head, but that didn’t stop her from having a good go at it.
Similar to the Benebone Maplestick, this toy has a shape and texture that works to its advantage. Having that irregular pattern seems to be a real game changer.
I like this toy especially because it can be used easily as a fetch or tug toy as well. Instead of the typical bone shape, the Nylabone Durachew allows you to play in a lot of ways you might not otherwise be able to.
Doing that, I was able to get my dog interested in chewing it, which is usually the big hurdle for her with chew toys. After that, she was off to the races. She chewed this toy for hours and hardly made a dent!
2. West Paw Zogoflex Tux
- Super durable
- Food stuffing feature
- Not an interactive toy
I love this toy and I’m excited to tell you why. First and foremost, I love toys that you can stuff food into!
I am personally a huge proponent of the Ditch The Bowl movement, which basically means giving dogs their food in the form of puzzles because it’s more fun for them!
I love being able to offer my pups some fun enrichment at mealtime, instead of same-old-same-old kibble in a bowl.
Secondly, I love this toy because it is durable. I’ve had my Zogoflex Tux for years and probably used it several times a week and it still looks almost new!
It seems like it’s pretty interesting to chew even without food in it as well, which is definitely an added bonus. Most of all though, I love this toy because my dogs love it!
1. GoDog Dragon With Chew Guard

- Could be destuffed by a determined pup
This toy is a long time favorite. I absolutely love it. I think there is something about a stuffy that is just totally unbeatable for most dogs.
Unfortunately, a lot of those toys aren’t suitable for dogs that are tough on toys, but the goDog Dragon is the perfect solution.
It’s durable with minimal stuffing and double stitching. It even has a durability guarantee!
I love that this toy comes with several squeakers, none of which have been de-squeaked yet by any of my dogs. This toy has gotten a lot of play time since we received it and it still looks great!
I can’t say enough good things about it! If you want a durable toy for a dog that loves to chew, squeak, and goof around, this should top the list of best dog chew toys for you!
Conclusion
All in all, I would conclude that my dogs thought testing these toys was a blast. They definitely have a strong preference for the toys that can hold food or be an interactive toy as well as a chew toy.
If you want durability and you think your dog would chew just about anything, I would highly recommend the Benebone or Nylabone toys.
If you want long-lasting fun, choose the goDog Dragon or the West Paw Tux. No matter what you choose though, your fur baby will love you for it, so don’t overthink it!
